In John Carpenter's apocalyptic cult classic, Escape from New York, crime rules. To combat the problem, New York City has been turned into a walled-off maximum security prison. The inmates gain the ultimate upper hand when a terrorist crashes the President's plane over the Manhattan skies. The President manages to eject before Air Force One explodes, but now he's stranded among the most devious criminals in the country. One-eyed criminal Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) is offered the chance to win his freedom if he can rescue the President and find some important cargo, then bring the two to safety. If not, it'll mean his life. Snake's been injected with a special explosive that will only be deactivated if he completes his improbable mission.
